Day 3 - The "City of Iron" or thermal spa "Fläming Therme", it is your choice!

Start the day with a healthy brakfast at the Luther-Hotel.

If the weather means well: How about a trip to Ferropolis, the "City of Iron"? Close to Gräfenhainichen in the east of Dessau Ferropolis is located on a peninsula in Lake Gremmin. Day 4 - Departure, but first... How a aout a trip to Klöden castle or to a fruit brandy distillery instead?

Start your last day at the Luther-Hotel with our healthy breakfast.

Fair-Weather-Oprtion: Visit the Klöden castle that is located in between Wittenberg and Torgau at the east bank of the Elbe. You can either ride along the Elbe Cycle Route R2 by bike (ca. 27,5 km) or by car. Every day, approximately 200 cyclo tourists are passing by the castle due to the speciose flora and fauna in the southern area of the "UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe" in close vicinity to the Flora-Fauna-Habitat territories "Klödener Riß" and "Elbaue zwischen Griebo und Prettin" (Elbe-meadow between Griebo and Prettin).
Not for the faint-hearted: At the castle, there is museum of witches. In march 1747, the last burning of a witch took place at the Klöden castle. The alledged witch's name was Christiane Hanke. The 60-year-old arsonist sentenced to death and was publicly burnt at the stake.

Bad-Weather-Option: Fans of alcohol will be satisfied after their trip to the fruit brandy distillery of Wilhelm Behr. On January 1831, Wilhelm Behr from Ilberstedt acquired the establishment and premises at the Schalaunische Straße (street) 15 in Köthen in order to open a hardware shop with an affiliated distillery. The oldest liquor manufactory of Saxony-Anhalt is better knwon under the name of "Schnapsbehr" since the Behr-Family is producing the liquors (schnaps). As the nickname "Schnapsbehr" is homophonic to "schnaps bear", two bears denote the manufactory's coat of arms. Hence, you can buy all sort of liquors there: "Bärenkräuter" is a kind of digestif schnaps made of herbs and spices. "Bärenkorn" is a typical German distilled beverage usually made of fermented rye but it may also be made from barley or wheat.
You can buy liquor or other souvenirs at the industrial selling which is open from nine to five on weekdays.

We wish you a safe trip home and are looking forward to welcoming you back soon at the Luther-Hotel in Wittenberg!
